How about a hike!
Talullah Gorge State Park
You can’t go wrong with this hike. It is usually well-traveled and groomed - with parts of the path paved in recycled rubber. There are hundreds of steps that you will take into the gorge and just as many to get out. But the views along the way are totally worth it! Be sure to take the off shoot path at the beginning where you will see a downed fire tower that once held a tightrope for Karl Wallenda who crossed the gorge in 1970. I can barely get close to the iron fence to look over into the gorge, let alone think about crossing it on a tightrope!
Admission is $5, parking is plentiful and there is an interpretive center with lots of information on the park as well as a souvenir shop. We like to get there before 9am to avoid the crowd. But even during heavier traffic times, everyone is so friendly, that it’s kind of cool to be on the path with others. Bring your camera as you will for sure see sights you will want to capture.
If you follow the trail underneath the bridge near the dam, you’ll find a beach area that is open during the summer, and lots of shady picnic spots right along the Talullah River.
